Wild animal tee shirts

I am learning to sketch a wild animal and transfer my drawing to a tee shirt.  I used special fabric markers to colour in my design.

Numbers to 10

I am learning to recognise numbers to 10 and place them in order.

"I can count up to 10. I know my numbers" said Kristian

Reading out loud

We are learning to read familiar poems out loud. We are trying to read with fluency and expression. As we get more confident, we can pay attention to the author's punctuation to help our reading sound more interesting.

"I can sound out words I don't know when I read out loud. I can read loudly so everyone can hear" said Kristian

Writing

At writing time we are learning to write the first sounds in words.

"I need to learn letters. I like my pictures."

Alphabet

I am learning my alphabet names and sounds to help me when I come to a word I do not know.

"I know some of my letters" said Kristian

Rocket ship

We have been learning about the solar system this term.  We made a rocket with paper and a straw then blew through the straw to see how far our rocket would travel.  

Maths Fun

We were learning to compare similar objects that differ only in length. We were experimenting  with learning to measure with non-standard units.  We were learning to have an accurate starting and finishing point when we measure and use measuring language. 

" I can do counting."

Phonics Time

Phonics lessons are a very important part of our Writing programme. In this photo I am learning my alphabet letters. I am making them with play doh and then telling the person next to me what the letter is.

"I like play doh."

Solar system

I am learning about planets in the solar system.  I can see Venus.

We are learning to publish our writing for an audience, because we are authors. In Room 3 we try to present our work in many different and interesting ways to encourage people to come and read our fabulous stories!

I am learning to point to each word as I read in the right direction.

Numbers to 10

I am learning to recognise as well as read and write numbers to 5.  I am able to write some of my numbers to 5 correctly.

"I can copy the numbers but I am learning to know all my numbers to 10." said Kristian

Tread Lightly Caravan visit

The Tread lightly Caravan visit was teaching us that the environment is everything around us in nature and that the environment is really important for us to live (trees for oxygen, water to drink, plants for food etc.) so we need to look after it.

"I'm making a plant to grow. It likes water."

Kai and Korero Evening

At the start of the year Elm Park School had a Kai and Korero evening. Our families, students and teachers got together to share what happens in our classrooms and then we finished with a picnic.

Kristian said, "This is my big sister."
